Introduction
Living Micro-organisms + Behavior Visualization + Mini-Robots, is a Work in Progress Project developed from an Artistic perspective together with the investigation «Communities of artificial systems of mini robots acting on the basis of the communication of behaviors of micro-organisms in the field of Robotic Art ”, and tries to show through the Robotics Installation Project “Con pan y con trabajo” a persistence in social collective memory in times of crisis.
The proyect proposes the approach referring to groups of people who must put up with long hours of work in unworthy conditions, by studying microorganisms fed with stale bread and organic components, used as slaves to generate energy and activate a community of mini-robots.
Some photoresistance cells register the movement of the projected microorganisms and emit the information to the electronic interfaces that give way to the energy that makes the robotic devices work and actuates them collectively.
Summary
The following research project suggests a theoretical/conceptual perspective on communication performed between living microorganisms and artificial communities of mini robots. While these communities are acting and expressing themselves, they allow the visualization of the movement of living organism, revealing the communication between real and artificial life.
The general framework of this project deals with protein digesting and liquefying enzymes which break down and degrade a mixture of organic matter and a real-time capture of the process in the Laboratory with microscopes, sensors and photo resistance cells in order to send information on the movement of the organisms to electronic interfaces.
The project proposes experimenting with communication between living and mechanical organisms, allowing the generation of simulations, considering artificial intelligence in a state of crisis, and bringing into play the artificial systems of mini robots according to statistical data collected by the activity of living microorganisms.
The purpose of this research is to think about the capacity of machines to recognize, understand, act and communicate through the movement of microorganisms which will be reflected in the development and production of an experimental prototype as a work of art that will account for the above mentioned concepts.
Objectives
The project is subjected to two substantial items, to be examined through the development of this research, as follows:
The first element deals with processing the information. It will provide a theoretical/conceptual framework for the problem of how living microorganisms interact and communicate with mini-robot communities in a state of crisis and how we evaluate and manage the new statistical data thus collected.
The second element deals with experimentation and production due to the observation and sensing of enzymes which cause the movement of the mobile devices. Those devices critically work in an artificial and dynamic environment. The new resulting statistical data will be applied to the creation of a work of art, a “robotic installation”.
General objective
The project analyzes the information and its artistic representation, where events with an artistic/technological context are involved in order to obtain theoretical/conceptual results. Furthermore, this project evaluates, from the praxis, works of authorship and artists who implement visualization systems in the design and production of functional experimental robotic devices in Electronic Art fields.
Specific objectives
Discussing the production of systems for visualizing microorganisms y mobile devices in Electronic Art, combining software, programing, electronic an mechatronic principles.
Building communities of mini robotic models with a specific programming code which involves specific crisis situations, affected by the detected movement of microorganisms.
Generating a system for visualizing data through collective behavior, using robots as an interface to understand the problem.
Exposing data generated by the collective action of the robots, allowing us to act in consequence and understand specific situations.
