Mechatronic Art, Design and Fabrication I

A systems based approach to design and fabrication of functional experimental art devices. Combines principles of mechanical, electronic, electrical, software engineering, robotics, motion control, sensors, actuators, and other control devices, with integrated review of advanced hardware and software components. We will use Arduino Boards and Processing as our programming language and fabrication methods (woodwork, metalwork, rapid prototyping) to build advanced experimental art systems. Focus will be on establishing a critical vocabulary for highly interdisciplinary mechatronic art practice. This class is appropriate for advanced students from DXARTS, Art, Music, Dance, EE and any other relevant discipline. Class time will be on DXARTS’ warehouse studio in Fremont. The class incorporates lectures, laboratory sessions, workshops and critiques.
